Amsterdamaged

nobody cares that I'm sweeping the halls
they're gonna sit in their chairs and stare at the walls
and say nothing 'bout me sweeping them halls
nobody cares that I'm mopping the floor
they're gonna walk in and out in and out of the door
and say I'm sorry for walking on your freshly mopped floor

I clean the ashtrays and I change the trash bags
and I dust the tables with Pledge and grab a fresh rag
coagulated scum beneath the toilet seat
and sticky spit out gum and dried up loogy
and there's a kid who always pisses in his sheets
mad ragged vagabonds from all over the world
like that crazy buck naked Slovenian girl
who they locked out one night and left out alone in the street
immune to the sound of her screams

nobody cares that I'm sweeping the halls
they're gonna sit in their chairs and stare at the walls
and say nothing 'bout me seeping them halls
nobody cares they just sit in their chairs
I'm bowing down to the one who never did his share
for nobody except his own

I clean the ashtrays and I change the trash bags
and I dust the tables with Pledge and grab a fresh rag
they're drinking Hagel-Schlog rocking clogs and worshipping God
feeding me some flavorless gray vegetable slop
trying to convert me and my friends to Christianity
can't get the smell of disinfectant off my hands
don't need no moral correction from the Knickerbockens
with some forty year old bearded busker sucking down a Budweiser
professing to be much wiser than yours truly
